Drawing Classes offers courses in all levels, from beginner to advanced, and all forms from private tutoring to group lessons. Prices vary based on the course’s content.
Alongside our classic art classes Foundation Class, Learn to Draw and Life Drawing we often run extra courses on specific aspects of drawing. If there is something you would like to study, but don't see here, please take the time to message us with a request and we will do our best to accomodate you in the future.
Foundation class
Learn to Draw
Standard Program | 2 hours per week | 6 weeks
On Wednesday evenings from 6 - 8 pm we will be offering our foundation course in drawing. If you are a complete beginner, an occasional dabbler, or a daily doodler who wants to learn more this may be for you. We will expose the methods that artists use to draw things realistically and teach you simple tricks that will transform the way you draw.
Next course begins Wednesday 2nd August 2023, 6-8pm Christchurch Art Gallery.

How to Begin (and how to keep going)
Intensive programme | 2 hours per week | 5 weeks
This course is for anyone who has an unfulfilled creative drive. This is for anyone who wants to create but doesn’t know how to start, what to make, how to keep going. For those who went to art school and stopped making, and for those who never got to go to art school.
Through drawing and written exercises we will explore and uncover the core beliefs that keep you stuck. We will talk about the creative process, expose the myths and reveal the magic around this. We will learn how to deal with criticism, perfectionism and with failure, and show you how to power up your creative life.

Life Drawing
Classic Life Drawing | 2 hours per week | Ongoing
Every Monday evening (except on public holidays) from 7 - 9 pm, we will be offering a dedicated life drawing class. If you loved the life drawing part of the previous course this is a lot more of that with a variety of models and a bunch of fresh poses.
Hosted in the fabulous Lyttelton Coffee Company building on London St in Lyttelton this group is for anyone who loves life drawing. Hannah will be available to answer your questions and give you some tips but this group is largely untutored and informal. Bring a bottle of wine and enjoy the warm and beautiful atmosphere.
Ongoing. This is a pay as you go, BYO drinks and materials situation. No booking is necessary. If you have materials you like using, an easel or drawing board, do bring them. Or you can just come and try out some of our gear.

Learn to Draw Group Session

Drawing Classes is pleased to announce one off group sessions suitable for a limited capacity event such as a party or team building excercise. Depending on your requirements we can teach beginners or run a full one off Life Drawing workshop.
